  • Why see Dr. Mike instead of a doctor in my health insurance network?
Timeliness Traditional medicine continues to force patients to have shorter and shorter visits with their doctor, at times only having 10 or 15 minutes to discuss complicated issues with your doctor. Dr. Mike can schedule visits up to 60 minutes and may even be able to spend 90 minutes if needed. You will have ample time to discuss your issues in depth, allowing Dr. Mike to have a clear understanding of your individual health care needs. Availability Traditional medicine requires doctors to have a roster of 1800-2500+ patients for whom they are responsible, called a panel. This means each patient will have limited access to their doctor. They may have to wait many months to get in for a visit and may not even be able to see their own doctor. Dr. Mike is limiting his practice size substantially, thereby ensuring he can provide more personalized and timely care. A smaller practice with a limited number of membership slots will enable you to get the personalized care from an experienced doctor, allowing you to get more timely, efficient care. Accessibility Traditional medicine, with large panels, requires multiple layers of staff to help address patient needs. If a patient calls a traditional clinic, you may have to go through multiple steps before you get a nurse who can try to answer your question, at times taking the doctor’s response days to get back to the patient. Dr. Mike will provide timely access to the patients. Non-members will generally get responses within one business day, while members will also have other access including after-hours email and messaging.
  • Pricing options?
There are three different pricing options for seeing Dr. Mike in clinic.
  • Monthly Membership or Periodic Patient Visits? Which should I choose?
There are three different ways to see Dr. Mike in clinic: One-time Consult Some patients will only want to see Dr. Mike once, such as for a pre-operative evaluation prior to a major surgery. Dr. Mike will be able to see you promptly, order necessary testing, and then notify your surgeon and primary care provider of your cardiac risk stratification to estimate your approximate risk of the upcoming surgery. This type of engagement with Dr. Mike is for the patient who will be seeing a cardiologist no more frequently than once in a 24-month period. An enrollment fee is necessary due to the extensive time required to obtain outside records and build clinical chart. This fee is non-refundable, even if the clinic visit is ultimately cancelled, as extensive time is involved in contacting prior facilities and obtaining records. Standard Plan Initial visit = $75 enrollment & $275 clinic visit (60-90 minutes) Subsequent visits = $175 (30-60 minutes) Phone calls returned during business hours 8am-5pm; the expectation is that Dr. Mike will return calls within one business day of the initial patient contact. Premium Plan Initial visit = $75 enrollment & $275 clinic visit (60-90 minutes) Monthly membership = $175 Phone calls directly to Dr. Mike; after hours email and messaging access. NOTE: As Dr. Mike is practicing as an independent cardiologist, he cannot guarantee emergent overnight responses to phone calls and messaging all-day, every day, 365 days per year. If you have an emergency or urgent situation, call 911. Additional services are included with the premium plan: EKGs immediately interpreted by a cardiologist Two limited echocardiograms annually Four InBody biometric assessments annually (once InBody device is available)
  • Insurance
What insurance does Evexeya accept? Dr. Mike will see any adult patient regardless of which insurance plan they carry, but does not accept any insurance payments. Can Dr. Mike see Medicare, BadgerCare, or Medicaid patients? Dr. Mike will see any Medicare, BadgerCare, or Medicaid patient, but those patients cannot use Medicare or Medicare to pay for the visit. The Medicare, BadgerCare, or Medicaid patients must sign an agreement indicating patients are aware that neither Evexeya Health nor their patients will submit claims to Medicare or Medicaid. Should I still have insurance if I obtain care from Dr. Mike at Evexeya Health? While Dr. Mike does not participate in any health insurance plan, it is advisable to have some form of catastrophic insurance coverage, such as those offered either through a variety of health cost sharing programs or through the health insurance marketplace (https://www.healthcare.gov/).
  • Access/Availability
What are clinic hours? Dr. Mike is generally available Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, by appointment only. There may be available options in the early mornings, evenings, or Saturdays, but by appointment only. How can I contact Dr. Mike? Those individuals on the Standard Plan may contact Dr. Mike by phone during typical business hours, Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm. However, as Dr. Mike may be with other patients, you may need to leave a message which should generally be answered within 24 hours. Those individuals on the Premium Plan will be able to contact Dr. Mike by phone during business hours as well as using messaging through the clinic portal after hours. Questions of managing semi-urgent issues after hours will be addressed during clinic on-boarding. Does Dr. Mike provide 24/7 care, 365 days per year? As Dr. Mike is practicing as an independent cardiologist, he is unable to promise 24 hours/day, 7 days/week access given the importance of him caring for himself and spending time with his family. Members will be given access options for after-hours access. Does Dr. Mike provide emergency care? If you have an emergency, contact 911 and get care at your local emergency department. Dr. Mike will be able to connect with the hospital where you obtained care and get the records related to your care. What if I need urgent care? As with emergency care, if there is doubt about the urgency of your condition, contact 911 and get care at your local emergency department. Clinic members may be able to contact Dr. Mike directly to aid in determining if a non-emergency should still be seen at a local emergency department after calling 911. However, as Dr. Mike may be assisting other patients, he may not be able to immediately answer all phone calls. If there is any doubt as to whether or not you are having an emergency, contact 911 to obtain care at your local emergency department. What happens if I go to a hospital? In most cases of modern medicine, if you go to a local hospital, you are unlikely to be seen by your own doctor, even your own outpatient cardiologist, as your own doctors are unlikely to be in the hospital at the time you seek care. Your own outside doctor will get records regarding your hospitalization and will be aware of the care you received while hospitalized. Dr. Mike is similarly able to review the information related to your hospitalization and can be in contact with those physicians. Is Dr. Mike able to “see” patients using telehealth? Dr. Mike can conduct some follow-up visits with patients enrolled in the Evexeya Health clinic using telehealth video conferencing for existing patients. In general, it is preferred to see new patients and those patients with acute, more pressing issues, in person. Patients may have some concerns which can be handled by phone or messaging, thereby allowing issues to be addressed without taking time off of work or traveling in poor weather.
  • Will Dr. Mike communicate in a timely fashion with my primary doctor?
Dr. Mike utilizes a modern electronic health record and will be able to send all pertinent records from his office visits to your primary care doctor and will also attempt to communicate with your doctor by phone to ensure you receive timely and efficient care.
  • How convenient is it to get to Dr. Mike's clinic?
The Evexeya Health clinic is located in the Eastpark of Madison, just east of the airport at 4652 S. Biltmore Lane, Madison, WI 53718. Our office is a quick 3-minute drive from the highway 39/90 and highway 151 interchange.
  • Why would I go to Dr. Mike if I can use Medicare at other clinics?
While Medicare may provide substantial coverage of your conditions, Dr. Mike strives to provide personalized care that is timely. You may have to wait 3-6 months to see a doctor which accepts Medicare, while Dr. Mike will strive to get you into the clinic in 1-2 business days. Once you get into a clinic that accepts Medicare, your doctor may only have 15 or 20 minutes and you may not even get to see your doctor.
  • About Dr. Mike
Clinical Experience Dr. Mike went to the University of Wisconsin – Madison for his undergraduate training. He graduated with honors with a double major in biochemistry and genetics. After graduation, he moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, and entered the human genetics Ph.D. program. While pursuing his Ph.D., he worked under the mentorship of a cardiologist, as well as alongside two other cardiologists who were also working in the same lab. While Dr. Mike was pursuing his Ph.D., Dr. Susan was in medical school at the University of Utah. Ultimately, surrounded by bright people with a clinical focus, Dr. Mike decided to enter medical school within weeks of obtaining his Ph.D. Consequently, when Dr. Mike finished his Ph.D. and Dr. Susan finished her M.D., they moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Dr. Mike began medical school. On completion of medical school, Dr. Mike and Dr. Susan moved to Pittsburgh, where Dr. Mike entered the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center internal medicine residency training program. Not long after entering residency, Dr. Mike realized he wanted to be a cardiologist. Consequently, on completing his residency, he entered his cardiology fellowship which combined both clinical medicine and research. On completion of his fellowship, and after practicing a year of clinical cardiology, Dr. Mike and Dr. Susan decided to return to Wisconsin and enter private practice first in Green Bay for a short time. He then practiced in Wausau for over a decade, followed by a short time in Appleton. After their kids finished high school in Wausau, Dr. Mike and Dr. Susan decided it was time to take a new approach to medicine and start their new journey with Evexeya Health in the Madison, Wisconsin, area. Business Experience As Dr. Mike advanced in his career, he increasingly participated in both the business side of the cardiology clinic as well as the health system. During that time, he enjoyed working to understand the process of providing care in both settings and advancing quality improvement in both settings. He was non-invasive medical director of echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, allowing him to help address quality and efficiency. Ultimately, Dr. Mike decided to obtain an M.B.A. to allow him to gain an even better understanding of business administration, both to improve his engagement in medical administration, but also to help inform his entrepreneurial interests. Outside of work Outside of work, Dr. Mike has a variety of hobbies. While in medical school, he quickly tired of using the traditional 3"x5" cards for studying. This led him to learn how to program Pocket PC’s and Palm Pilots and create an electronic version of the flashcards called HandyCards, a program he wrote after starting HandyMed, LLC. Ultimately, his first startup lasted over 10 years and reached over 5,000 customers around the globe. The second startup came when Dr. Mike was repeatedly frustrated by the mess one creates when mixing natural nut butters, as their oils repeatedly decorated counter tops. This led to him starting JagZel, LLC, and then creating the No Drip Lip, a flexible top that could be put onto natural nut butter jars, allowing the nut butters to be mixed without losing the oils and creating a mess. The No Drip Lip has yet to hit its stride and we still hold out hope for it to reach many new customers. When not dreaming of new companies to start, Dr. Mike enjoys spending time with his longtime partner and loving wife, Dr. Susan, as well as spending time with his two amazing children that have grown into delightful young adults. Dr. Mike also enjoys biking, kayaking, hiking, woodworking, and getting a chance to take in a show or concert.
