Frequently asked questions
Timeliness
Dr. Susan schedules 60 minute visits and will be able to take as much time with her patients as needed. Typical pediatric practices today schedule patients every 15 minutes for acute concerns and 30 minutes for wellness only visits. In fact, some practices will even overbook patients, forcing doctors to see two patients in the same 30 minute slot. This often is insufficient time to adequately listen to patients and provide the care they need.
Availability
Dr. Susan is limiting her practice size, to ensure more personalized and timely care for all her patients. This allows Dr. Susan to get patients in promptly, rather than waiting months or having patients see an advanced practice clinician instead.
Accessibility
Dr. Susan will be able to respond to member patients promptly, either via phone calls or messaging. There are no extra layers of staff to go through first, such as nurses.

Weight management patients may contact Dr. Susan by phone during typical business hours, Monday to Friday. If Dr. Susan is in with a patient when you call, you may need to leave a message, which will be answered within 24 hours.
Does Dr. Susan provide 24/7 care 365 days per year?
As Dr. Susan is a solo practitioner, she is unable to promise 24 hours/day, 7 day/week access, as she will spend time with her family. Members will be given access options for after-hours access.
Does Dr. Susan provide emergency care?
If your child has an emergency, contact 911 and get care at your local emergency department. Dr. Susan will be able to connect with your hospital where your child received care to obtain those records.
What if my child needs urgent care?
As with emergency care, it may be best to contact 911 and get care at your local emergency department. Clinic members may be able to contact Dr. Susan to help direct care if you are uncertain what to do. Please remember, however, that Dr. Susan may not be available immediately if she is seeing a patient in clinic. If there is any doubt about your child having an emergency or not, contact 911 to obtain care at your local emergency department.
What happens if my child goes to a hospital?
If your child gets admitted as an inpatient at a hospital, they will be cared for by a pediatric hospitalist. Dr. Susan will be in communication with them and receive their records from the hospitalization.
Is Dr. Susan available to see patients using telehealth?
Dr. Susan can conduct some visits with patients enrolled in the Evexeya Health clinic using telehealth video conferences. Some patient concerns can also be addressed by phone or messaging, thereby allowing issues to be addressed without taking time off work and school, or in case of inclement weather.
Educational Background
Dr. Susan attended UW-Madison for undergraduate studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree with distinction in molecular biology. She then attended medical school at the University of Utah while Dr. Mike attended graduate school there. She graduated with her MD with AOA honors, and then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where she did her pediatric residency at the University of Michigan while Dr. Mike attended medical school there. After Dr. Mike graduated and Dr. Susan completed her chief residency year, they moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for his residency and fellowship in Cardiology. During that time Dr. Susan was on faculty as Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where she cared for medically complex patients and challenging cases as a member of the prestigious Diagnostic Referral Group. She also was a pediatric hospitalist at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for seven years. After Dr. Mike completed his cardiology training, they moved back to Wisconsin to be closer to family. They lived in Green Bay for a short time and then moved to Wausau, WI, where they lived for 13 years and raised their children. Dr. Susan has had the privilege of providing primary care pediatrics in a small rural community, with all its challenges and rewards. Now that their children have grown up and launched out of their nest, Dr. Susan and Dr. Mike decided it was time for some new adventures, including moving to Madison to come full circle from whence they first met.
Medical Interests
Dr. Susan has over twenty years of experience in caring for infants, children, and adolescents with complex medical conditions, mental health issues, as well as behavioral and developmental challenges. She is interested in wellness, preventive medicine, and obesity medicine. Seeing our society struggling with health problems related to the disease of obesity over the span of her practice, she has become increasingly interested in obesity medicine. Because of that interest, she became board certified in obesity medicine. She is also a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Obesity.
Outside of medicine:
Dr. Susan enjoys reading everything she can get her hands on, playing piano, trying new recipes, playing ball with Darwin, her German shepherd, sending funny Insta-reels to her daughter and son, which make them roll their eyes, and planning her next travel adventure with Dr. Mike.
