About Dr. Mike
Dr. J. Michael Frangiskakis, MD, PhD, MBA, FACC
Adult Cardiologiovascular Specialist in Madison, WI
Dr. J. Michael “Mike” Frangiskakis is an adult non-invasive cardiologist with nearly 20 years of experience caring for patients across Wisconsin. In 2025, he co-founded Evexeya Health with Dr. Susan Frangiskakis to offer direct patient care: unhurried visits, fast access to a cardiologist, and transparent pricing. His clinical interests include cardiovascular disease prevention, heart failure management, and arrhythmia management.
Training and Board Certification
Dr. Mike is a University of Wisconsin–Madison graduate, with a B.S. in both biochemistry and genetics. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in human genetics at the University of Utah and later earned his M.D. at the University of Michigan. He completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh in the Clinical Investigator Pathway, which combined clinical training with dedicated cardiovascular research.
He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, by the National Board of Echocardiography in adult echocardiography, by the Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology in nuclear cardiology, and by the American Board of Clinical Lipidology. He has been a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) since 2015 and is a member of the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, and the National Lipid Association.
Experience
Since 2009, Dr. Mike has practiced cardiology in Green Bay, Wausau, and Appleton. He worked for nearly 12 years in Wausau, where he served as medical director of both the echocardiography and nuclear cardiology labs, overseeing the quality and accuracy of the heart imaging tests patients rely on. He also served on the medical executive, quality review, physician leadership, and cardiology operating committees, as well as participating in the institutional review board. He later completed an M.B.A., experience he puts to work running a practice built around efficiency, access, and clear pricing.
A Background in Genetics and Research
Before medical school, Dr. Mike’s doctoral research identified the role of a gene (LIM-Kinase1) in the cognitive profile of Williams syndrome, work published in the journal Cell. His cardiology research at Pittsburgh studied how genetic variation influences arrhythmia risk, and he has co-authored studies on the genetics of tako-tsubo cardiomyopathy and on heart rhythm problems after brain hemorrhage. For patients, this means a cardiologist who is comfortable interpreting family history, inherited risk factors, and genetic test results, and who can explain what they mean in plain language.
His Approach to Care
Seeing a cardiologist can be stressful, so Dr. Mike takes as much time as each patient needs. New patient visits often run 90–120 minutes, all of it spent with Dr. Mike himself.
He believes in preventing heart disease, not just treating it once it develops. Tools such as Evexeya’s WholeHeart Wellness & Prevention lab profiles help him show each patient their individual risks and where preventive efforts will matter most.
Every patient is different, with their own goals and preferences. Dr. Mike follows current clinical guidelines closely to keep care high-quality and evidence-based, but he uses them to inform a plan built for you, not to fit you into a one-size-fits-all approach.
Access and Availability
As a direct specialty care cardiologist, Dr. Mike aims to see new patients within one week of scheduling, and usually within 1–2 days, depending on your availability. Clinic hours are typically 9 am–5 pm, with early morning or evening appointments available on request. Existing patients can use telehealth visits and secure messaging. While seeing Dr. Mike generally does not require any long-term commitment or membership fees, he does offer a monthly Premium Plan for those people who want expanded after-hours access and a more concierge-like experience.
Working With Your Other Doctors
Dr. Mike has access to Epic electronic medical records across multiple Wisconsin health systems, including UW Health, SSM Health, Group Health Cooperative (GHC), and UnityPoint Health, so your history, test results, and hospital or emergency visits are available to him without delay. He communicates directly with your primary care provider, whether they practice in a large health system or independently, to keep everyone on the same page.
Evexeya Health does not provide emergency care. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911. Dr. Mike can review your emergency department and hospital records afterward to support your follow-up care.
Outside of Work
Dr. Mike enjoys spending time with his wife, Dr. Susan, and their two children. He also enjoys long bike rides and long paddles in a sea kayak, battling Mother Nature's waves and wind.
Dr. Mike has an inventor’s streak. Frustrated with paper flashcards in medical school, he taught himself to program and built HandyCards, a digital flashcard app that ran for over a decade and reached more than 5,000 users worldwide. Years later, tired of nut butter oil spilling onto the counter, he invented the No Drip Lip, a flexible jar topper for mess-free stirring. Evexeya Health is, in a sense, his latest fix: a cardiology practice built around the time and access patients actually need.
